Kerala, popularly known as God’s own country is one of the most beautiful states in India. Sandy beaches, waving palms, backwaters, mountains and of course coconuts in abundance are synonymous with Kerala.

If you are a beach bum looking forward to a short weekend getaway, without too much crowd around you, Varkala is the best place to be. The Papanasam beach is one of the popular beaches around this town. The Black beach and even beaches in Edava, which is close to Varkala will offer you the much needed beach break.

How to reach Varkala? Here’s the answer to that!

Nearest airport is at Thiruvananthapuram located around 45 km away from the beach town. Once you reach Trivandrum, you can easily get to Varkala by train, bus or a cab.

Varkala is accessible through buses from both Kochi and Trivandrum. You will find KSRTC buses in abundance running within the city from the major bus stands.

There are no direct buses available from Bangalore to reach Varkala. So, you need to reach either Trivandrum or Kovalam first, which will take you around 12-14 hours. Once you reach Trivandrum, you can easily get to Varkala by Train. The journey from Trivandrum to Varkala by train takes around 2-2.5 hours.

Varkala Railway Station, at a distance of less than 5 km serves as the ideal stoppage to reach Varkala Beach by train. Though it doesn’t have a huge network of trains, still it serves a convenient rail route to connect the city with other parts of Kerala and major cities such as Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Kochi, Bangalore and Mangalore.

So, choose your preferable mode of transportation and head to this beach paradise called Varkala. It’s going to be worth it.
