I was going through all the emails we receive regarding applications for internships or other positions. It makes me pleasantly surprised to see the variety in the demography of these applications.
Among those who sent us internship applications was a boy working in a modest garment shop, college students, a 25 year old girl who started her own mushroom farming business, a housewife and also a 46 year old lady working in Guwahati away from her family, a very successful COO of a restaurant! There are fifty, sixty more.
What I loved most were the reasons they stated for wanting to work with us. Getting to know from people that they love the stories on our page, the bonding of trippers, the comments of many trippers and those who want to join the trips, being the most common reasons, feels amazing. Being told that they wanted to intern with us, not just cos it was a job opportunity, but because of the camaraderie they notice on the page, the love that a lot of trippers and we share, and the overall emotions of the page, makes me feel we have done something right in these years.
Niyati joined the team last year, and she used to be a lawyer before that. Sakshi was a software engineer. Radhika who just joined our Operations team was working in Amazon earlier. So, it just goes on to say that we aren’t just looking for people of a certain profile. For internships, we look for smart people who can write well, for trip leading we look for people who love nature, animals, people and a dozen more things.
We can’t recruit everyone. We have limited resources too. Often we have to say no to someone who is very enthusiastic as well, and believe me it feels bad to do so. But we are very thankful that people consider us for their professional journey. We are proud that people apply not caring about their ages, not caring about their past professions.
It is important to dream, and to try pursue your dreams. We will be able to help out some, but even if we can’t, keep at your dreams, never give up, try to enhance your skill set so that everyone wants you, and try to be the best at what you love. If you are smart, work towards your goals, some day you will reach them!
